i te takutai • by the ocean

Classes are held at Fitzroy Surf Life Saving Club, 2D Beach Street, Fitzroy.

Nuku began by the ocean, first at East End SLSC and then moving to Fitzroy SLSC.

Practising yoga within earshot of the ocean feels extra special, something I wanted to hold on to even as the dream of a studio took shape.

Classes at Fitzroy SLSC are all taught by Sam. The feel is a little more casual, our makeshift studio is salty and sandy. No fancy fit-out here, just mats on the floor and a beautiful view. Everything that matters, the warmth, the welcome, the kaupapa, is exactly the same as the studio.

Mats and blocks are all available, though you're welcome to bring your own mat if you prefer.

All passes are valid across both Fitzroy and the studio, use yours here, there, or both.

  • DYNAMIC VINYASA

    Thursdays 5:30pm • Sliding scale $15-20
    Sam

A stronger, faster-paced practice for those who like to move with rhythm.

Each class begins with a strengthening warm-up, moves through standing sequences and balance work. The arc is consistent, so the structure becomes familiar even as what lives inside it changes week to week.

Te reo Māori and yogic philosophy are woven gently through each class. Expect to work hard, move with breath and leave feeling energised and a little stronger.

  • VINYASA • ALL-LEVELS

    Saturday 8am • Sliding scale $15-20
    Sam

A more spacious vinyasa practice, with a longer warm up and cool down and time to settle into shapes before flowing through them.

Sam guides each class with the intention of welcoming all levels of practice while offering opportunity for those wanting to challenge themselves.

Te reo Māori and yogic philosophy are woven gently through each class. The practice will meet you where you are.
